             The Department of Ethnography was differentiated in 1976. Its activity is focused on the searching, collecting and keeping of materials, representing the traditional urban and country material and spiritual culture in the period from the middle of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. Over 2 500 inventory units are kept in the fund of the Department, coming from the territory of the Asenovgrad ethnographic region. The most significant are the following collections:
     - from urban and country fabric, representing traditional weaving techniques and ornamentation;
     - from the typical for the Asenovgrad region female, male and children's costumes;
     from ornaments of traditional regional costumes;
     - from objects and tools related to the viticulture and wine production;
     - from copies of original martenitsi, Easter eggs, survachki, etc., associated with the festival and ritual system of the local population.
     As a result of a longstanding collection activity and terrain researches the scientific fund of the Department contains a rich information about the main settlements in the Asenovgrad region. There are files for every separate village in the area, reviewing all aspects of their material and spiritual culture.
     The valuable work of curators in the Department has had an expression in the foundation of the exposition "Representative urban life from the late 19th and early 20th century" in the restored and adapted to the aim building.
     Currently, the curator of the Department is Rossitsa Ivanova.
